How to Partition and Format Hard Drives in Windows

A hard disk partition defines the storage space on your hard drive. This process allows you to make smaller, yet more logical, hard disks. Formatting the hard drive defines the kind of file system you will need to access your hard drives and partitions.

Creating and formatting a partition in Windows

Before you can create a partition on your hard drive in Windows, you will need to install an unused hard disk or must have ample unpartitioned space availabe on your existing hard drive. You can also opt to delete an existing partition to create a new one. In this tutorial, I will partition and format the unused space from one of my hard drives. The steps here will also work with hard disks with partitions which have been previously deleted; as well as with brand new hard drives.

Follow the steps to open the Disk Management Administrative Tool to access hard disk tasks:

  1. Click on the START button and select the CONTROL PANEL. If you do not have this shortcut on the START menu, open MY COMPUTER and click on the CONTROL PANEL.
  2. Double-click on the ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS icon and open COMPUTER MANAGEMENT.
  3. If the CONTROL PANEL is in Category view, click on PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE, then click on ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, and lastly double-click on the COMPUTER MANAGEMENT icon.
  4. Once the COMPUTER MANAGEMENT screen opens, just click on the DISK MANAGEMENT option; it is under the STORAGE category. A screen similar to the one below will appear.

In the disk management tool, you will see a listing of all your hard drives and how they are partitioned. The image above shows that I have two hard disks installed. The first disk, or DISC 0, has two partitions. Drive letter C has 24 GB NTFS, while Drive letter E has 87 GB NTFS. These drive letters were assigned during a previous partition. In the second drive, there is only one partition, which is the D: partition. There is 26 GB of unallocated and therefore useable space that can be used to make other partitions.

From the unused space, you can make a partition by following the steps below.
  1. Right click on the unallocated space.
  2. A new menu will come up, click on the NEW PARTITION option.
  3. A wizard on how you would like the partition to be created will open. On the first screen, press NEXT.
  4. On the second screen, you will be made to choose between a primary or extended partition. Detailed information about these kinds of partitions can be read at the tutorial listed above. Select Primary Partition, which is fine for most people, and press NEXT.
  5. The third screen will help you determine how much of the unallocated space you would like to use for the new partition. You can choose to use of all of space or you can stick with the default size. After you enter a size in the Partition size in MB: field, press NEXT.
  6. In the next screen, select a drive letter you want to assign your new partition, or you can also use the default letter given. The drive letter you chose will be how you access the partition later. Press NEXT when you are done.
  7. The next step will ask you how you would like the new partition to be formatted. The NTFS file system is advisable for most people. However, if you need a file system that is readable by older operating systems, such as DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME, you should choose the FAT32 file system.
  8. You can type in a name for the Volume Label field, or you can leave it blank. This name will be associated with the new partition.
  9. After you press the NEXT button, a summary screen will appear. If you are satisfied with the partition you created, press FINISH to complete the creation and formatting of the new hard disk partition.
When the computer is done formatting and partitioning your hard drive, you will be prompted back to the Disk Management screen. Here you will see the new partition you have made and the drive letter on the computer. You can now begin using this drive.

Deleting a Partition in Windows

If you have an existing partition in your hard drive, and you wish to delete this for purposes only known to you, it is important for you to know that you will lose all the data in your partition.

Follow the steps below:
  5. Click on the partition you wish to delete and then choose the DELETE PARTITION option.
  6. A confirmation box will appear, and ask you if you are sure you wish to continue. Press YES if you are only sure that you want to delete the partition. Remember, if you press yes, all the data in the partition will be deleted.
  7. After you press YES, the partition will be deleted. You can choose to exit the program or create a new partition.

How to Do the XBox 360 Towel Trick

Overheating is the main cause of the XBox 360 3 red lights error. The early XBox 360 models were all made with power and good looks in mind, unfortunately, Microsoft didnt really think about the heat being generated by all of these components packed into a tight space. There are 2 cooling fans at the rear but they arent up to the job and the case is very narrrow, and doesnt allow enough heat to escape. The towel trick then is an attempt to fix this overheating problem.

The xbox 360 towel trick basically involves you wrapping a towel around your console and letting it heat up again.Although it seems hard to believe there is some good theory behind the madness of wrapping your XBox 360 up in a towel. The only sure way to fix the 3 red light error is to get a good guide from the internet and perform the fix yourself. There are many good guides available to download, all for about the cost of a game, and they need no special tools to do the fix, which takes abot an hour.Best thing sbout it is the fix is permanent and above all safe.

Alright, you've got your hair all over the floor now because your dear old Xbox 360 is showing the dreaded - RROD! While this is happening, you already have your best friends - COD4, FFXIII, Gears of Wars 2 waiting for you on the rack but you can't play them!

Step-by-step guide on how to do the Xbox 360 towel trick:
  1. You'll need to confirm that your Xbox 360 actually has the 3 red lights, and not any other errors.
  2. Prepare 3 towels, like those that you normally use for showers.
  3. Stay focus, and remove everything from the Xbox 360, including the hard drives, wired controllers, games, etc, however, DO NOT remove the power supply.
  4. Take the towels, make sure they are dry, and wrap them around your Xbox 360 consoles.
  5. Next up, plug on the Xbox 360's power supply and turn your console on. Don't worry if you notice the usual Red ring of death. Continue letting it run for 15-20 minutes.
  6. Afterwards, turn off the Xbox 360 including the power supply and let it cool down for 10 minutes or longer.
  7. Plug everything back in and turn it on again. It should work by now.

NOTE: I'll have to warn you that this method involves heating the internal chips to extremely high temperatures so that broken solder points get resoldered again and warped components get reshaped. So instead of a fix, you're actually damaging your Xbox 360 further, and expect to see RROD in another few days.

How to utilize PC access software?

There is no limit of technology as it is expanding its wings amazingly and achieving new milestones with every single day. You won't believe that you can access or store data even from other remote locations. It is really a valuable technology especially for the business professionals as they can use the data which is not available on their machines. Yes, it is possible by using Remote Access Software which is extremely beneficial for the employees and employers. It comes at a very inexpensive price tag and can be installed easily on the computer, making it one of the most affordable and attractive option for the business professionals.

For external and internal use

Most companies or businesses often utilize Remote Access software to allow their staff to work either from home or another location. These software options have amazing features as these enable telecommuting, streamline workflow and improve the collaboration efforts. There are numerous companies available which utilize this software as an outdoor device in order to repair computers remotely or to work with clients on other locations. These software options can also be used to connect with devices which are internet capable including smart phones, PDAs and computer tablets.

What are the security concerns?

If you are using Remote Desktop Software, make sure that the connection is secure. Some professionals often use smart cards so as to offer secure authentication. Actually, most smart cards need authorization credentials along with a security code, allowing users to sign in securely. All types of communication via remote access must be encrypted and different kinds of access are also available. But just make sure that all the unused network ports or protocols are disabled.

Some benefits of remote access

The remote access software helps employees transfer business files and makes it easier for them to collaborate with projects. Also, the data can be used from a multitude of sources which, simply put, means that web presentations and teleconferencing are very easy to incorporate. The software can be used and copied in a variety of locations, and implemented from different computers. There are different kinds of PC remote access software available to be installed or purchased online. Some companies even offer a free trial which thus helps in choosing the right program. How to Setting System Restore In Vista and Se7en

If you want to change when or how often System Restore creates an automatic restore point then this is how.
Click on the Start Orb and in the 'Search' box type Task Scheduler and click 'Enter'.
In the scheduler click on 'Task Scheduler Library' then 'Microsoft'.

Click on Windows then scroll down to 'System Restore' and click on that.
You will now see SR Ready (or Queued) Multiple Triggers Defined, double click on that.

Click on the 'Triggers' tab and you will see the default settings are to run at Startup and midnight everyday.

If you never have your computer on at midnight ( I dont, I am at work) then you can change it to a more suitable time by double clicking on the task.
On the next window that opens you will see the default settings, dont change 'On a Schedule' but you can now change the start time by clicking on either the 'Up' or the 'Down' arrows.

It is advisable to leave the rest of the default settings under this tab as they are but obviously the choice is yours.
Click on the 'Conditions' tab and you will see that the computer idle time is 10 minutes by default, this is the time the schedule will wait after your machine is idle before running.
The 'Wait for idle for' means the schedule will run up to the time you have set, in my case 23 hours.

The 'History' tab shows you when the task has been run in the past and the outcome.

Click on the 'Triggers' tab again and double click on 'At Startup'.
You will see a delay of 30 minutes has been set, this is so it wont run while your machine is booting so leave it on that setting.

Click on 'OK' then close the Sheduler and any changes you made will be saved.

Although it worth changing the default midnight time to a more suitable time, I wouldnt change the settings much more than that.

Secrets Of Karaoke DVD

The word `karaoke` has a Japanese origin from the words `kara` meaning empty or void and okesutora, meaning orchestra. It is a kind of entertainment in which singers sing with music pre-recorded played on a music system. The song used is usually a popular song, but the original recorded voice is removed or the volume is reduced low enough so that it does not interfere with the current singer.

Karaoke DVDs are discs that are specially formatted to have only music of songs and their lyrics displayed when the song is played from the DVD. The earlier formats used for Karaoke were VCD and CD+G. Another format which is used for karaoke discs is laser discs.

The CD+G discs were mainly normal audio CDs but also having lyrics data written on them. The discs can be played on a general CD player but the images for lyrics are of low quality. On the other hand VCD used for karaoke can store high quality MPEG videos for lyrics display.

In the karaoke DVD format, video is supported. Hence, the songs on the DVD can be accompanied by high quality video clips which are specially made for karaoke.

The karaoke discs (karaoke DVDs) are available in two formats - multiplex and non-multiplex.

The multiplex format contains vocal demos for the songs on the DVD which gives the user an option to listen to the song with vocals also. This is present to help the user to practice and compare his/her song with the original song. The vocals can be eliminated from the song by using the vocal remove button or the multiplex function present on the player used to play the DVD.

The non-multiplex format comes without vocals and is more appropriate for experienced users.

An important thing to note is that the tracks on karaoke DVD are not made from the original songs. Rather, the music is recreated. The karaoke songs are recorded again separately and care is taken that the music sounds very similar to the track which was recorded originally. In the multiplex DVD formats, it may be possible that the original artist (singer) is not the one singing the song.

Most karaoke players use a technology that changes the pitch of the song electronically to suit the singer`s voice and at the same time maintaining the tempo of the original song.

Also, the karaoke discs come with the background singer, normally the chorus and it is not possible to remove these background singers.

A very popular form of karaoke venue is a Karaoke Box. It is a medium sized room which contains the equipments required for karaoke. This helps the singer to avail a more private and intimate atmosphere to sing for fun or practice for some performance. The room can be rented for as long as the user wants. Some karaoke bars also charge on a per song basis, typically $1 or S2 for a song.

Another option is to buy a karaoke DVD player which can be used at home. The player generally costs less than 100 dollars and the karaoke DVDs will cost around 15 dollars a piece.

A popular game known as `Karaoke Roulette` or `Kamikaze Karaoke` is played in karaoke bars. In this game, random songs are played on the karaoke player and the participants have to identify and sing along.

A large number of software applications are also available now which makes it possible to host karaoke shows on the computer. Various websites dedicated to karaoke makes it possible even for amateur singers to share and participate in a global karaoke community.

Intel Pushes Cedar Trail/Oak Trail Chipsets for Tablets and Notebooks

At Google I/O this week, Google announced Android 3.1 to be officially released in June, giving us all hope that it will be more free with licensing the OS to tablet hardware vendors, and that we will see Honeycomb on more tablets. Google had previously only given licensing to Asustek, Acer, and Motorola for their tablets. Motorola has already updated the Xoom to 3.1. Google has also said that they will cooperate with Intel to get Oak Trail/Chrome or Cedar Trail/Chrome platforms for more Chromebooks.

Google has also announced that Google TV will support Android 3.1 as well. At the same time, Intel is working closely with Google and with manufacturers to get its chips into tablets and into phones as well, instead of being relegated to only PCs, notebooks and netbooks. Acer, ASUS and Lenovo will all be launching Oak Trail/Android 3.1 tablets soon, further adding to consumer choice in the tablet market.

Acer, ASUS and Lenovo will also be launching Cedar Trail/Chrome notebooks in the second half of the year. We will be looking forward to trying those out and reviewing them when they appear. Especially with the merging of NVIDIA and Icera, Intel is making a major effort to make sure they are not shut out of the mobile processor market. NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 has been the go-to processor for tablets, and Intel is pushing to have its x86 in more tablets going forward.

Velocity Micro readies three Android tablets

So far, the anticipated wave of Android tablets competing against the Apple iPad has been little more than a trickle. The unfortunately named Dell Streak--though promising--has yet to show its face in the U.S., and the dated Android 1.5 OS on the Archos 5 and Archos 7 Home Tablet leaves plenty to be desired.

The recently announced Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet renews our hope for an agile, inexpensive Android alternative to Apple's runaway hit. Due out in September with a 7-inch capacitive touch screen and an affordable price of $299, the Cruz Tablet delivers a (mostly) complete Android OS 2.1 experience, including compatibility with Flash 10.1.

You also get 802.11n Wi-Fi, an SDHC memory card slot with an included 8GB card, 4GB of integrated memory, 800x480 native resolution, multitouch, accelerometer control, a front-facing camera, speaker, microphone, headphone jack, and plenty of media playback support (music, video, and e-books).

Unfortunately, the caveat with the Cruz Tablet is the same for all current Archos Android tablets, which is the inability to use Google's Android Marketplace app to browse, purchase, and download any of the thousands of apps made for Android. Like Archos, Velocity Micro offers their own integrated storefront for apps they've handpicked for the Cruz, but the pickings are presumably slim and the idea of limited access sorta goes against the whole ethos of Android.

Regardless, it's good to see another horse in the race, and Velocity Micro isn't stopping with just one tablet. Set for an August release are the Cruz Reader ($199) and Cruz StoryPad ($149). As the names imply, both of these tablets are geared primarily as e-book readers, with the least expensive of the two designed as an interactive reader for children that includes preinstalled content.

Stylistically, the Cruz Reader appears indistinguishable from the Cruz Tablet, using a similar 7-inch TFT color touch screen, but it uses an 800x600 resolution instead of the Tablet's 16:9-optimized 800x480 resolution. The $100 difference between the two products comes down to the Reader's limited storage (256MB integrated, 2GB SD), slower Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), resistive screen, lack of multitouch, diminished video playback support, and half the system memory (256MB).

Processor specs haven't been made official yet, so there may be a difference in horsepower between the three tablets, as well. The Cruise Reader does come with a charging dock included, however, which Cruz Tablet owners will have to shell out for separately.

Hardware limitations aside, the Cruz Reader still strikes us as a capable little Android tablet, as demonstrated in the video below. It certainly ain't quick, but the price is right and the built-in eBook storefront doesn't look half bad.

Netbook, a new trend in mobile world

Interestingly, the prices of the notebook computer have dropped even though its capability is better than the previous generation.

Netbooks and nettops have been launched to allow people in developing countries easier access to computers. This mission is in line with the program "Intel World Ahead". In addition to Intel, vendors of the class of Dell and HP (Hewlett-Packard) have also produced UMPCs because of the gadget's great business potential.

Other vendors have also rushed into the market with this product. Then Acer entered the market with Acer Aspire One, followed by MSI Wind from MSI, BenQ Joybook Lite U101, Quantel, Zyrex Ubud, Anoa, Fujitsu, Wibrain and many others.

Take Asus Eee PC, for example. The cheapest type is sold at below Rp 3 million. UMPCs of other makes with more complete features are sold at prices ranging between Rp 3 million and Rp 6 million. Aside from the price, the advantage of a netbook lies in its features. The features of a UMPC are just like those of an UMPC laptop. An UMPC also uses a modern operational system such as Windows XP, Windows Vista or Linux.

On average an UMPC weighs no more than 1 kg while an ordinary notebook usually weighs above 1.5 kgs. A netbook has a screen measuring between 4.3" and 7". The screen of an UMPC can either be a touch screen (active and passive) or an ordinary LCD screen.

It is true that the technology adopted by an UMPC differs from the technology used by a notebook. The technology used by an UMPC is still lower than the technology used by a notebook. The processor of an UMPC is of the ULV (ultra low voltage) type, which is oriented to maximizing the durability of the batteries such as Dell Inspiron 1150 Battery. Indeed, an UMPC is not designed to replace a notebook. The processor usually used in an UMPC is AMD Geode, Via, Intel Atom or Intel Celeron ULV (Ultra Low Voltage). An UMPC is indeed intended for a user who needs a notebook without attaching importance to the other less important features. This gadget usually has only the standard features to run office and Internet applications only. Only the latest products have quite a spacious storage medium. One expectation the UMPC has yet to fulfill is the capability of the gadget to be used for communications.

7 Motives for Creating a Blog

There are many reasons for people creating a blog and these motives are normally established early on in the life of the blogging platform itself. There are many who have an interest in starting their own site but are unsure of the best way to format the delivery of their blog content. The concerns are what is it people like to see and what may be some of the more popular styles the top bloggers use. Well since blogging requires time and commitment there needs to be a passion or motive that drives you and if this is the case your reasons will dictate how you deliver your blog content. If a passion does not exist the life expectancy of you site will likely not be very long!

With that said here are 7 of the most common reasons many people establish their own blogging platform which may perhaps spark an idea for you as well!

1. To Inform

Depending upon the niche you have selected some people are 'news junkies' who find gratification in breaking the news to others. This type of blog content is appreciated by those who use the internet as their primary source of news.

2. To Educate

Learning something new about anything ranging from passions, interest or perhaps even a current project is a common reason why many search the internet. By sharing your expertise and/or new found knowledge in a particular field with others is a terrific way to build a following and one in which there is always a need!

3. To Inspire

In the age of self improvement or self help making available a source of inspiration to others is another popular area for both bloggers and people in search of inspiring content. Many top bloggers regardless of their fields of interest will periodically dedicate some of their efforts to creating inspirational material for their readers to view. Who out there is not in need of inspiration at one time or another?

4. To Entertain

Another field that attracts a broad cross-section of viewers is entertainment. Whether it is humor, music, movie reviews or celebrity reporting this is an area many focus upon when developing their blog content. Seeking out various forms of entertainment is a needed outlet for most and a demand that is both strong and constant.

5. To Persuade

This would typically be a business blog where the motive is to earn an income, which is a very strong motive indeed! Persuasion is used more than promoting when a blogging platform is used for marketing purposes since relationship building is a bloggers primary objective.

The political arena is also able to make effective use of blogs as well for sending out their messages to loyal constituents.

6. To Share Opinions

Whether it is sharing or seeking opinions this is an interest that reaches to almost every human being. Think about it, who does not have an interest in what others may think on a particular subject or the desire to share their own opinions instead?

7. To Update

Many special interest groups or industry watchdogs make great use of the blogging platform to keep people up to date on current news or changes. Much like political blogs these platforms serve also as rallying grounds for others who share the same interests!

As you have seen there are many reasons people have for creating a blog and in most cases these reasons are strong. Since maintaining a blogging platform takes plenty of time and commitment it seems that it helps to have a natural interest or enthusiasm for what you write about. As is the case with most of the top bloggers, this enthusiasm or passion tends to be reflected in the blog content itself thereby making it for a more interesting read. In the majority of cases the way people deliver their content is dictated by their reasons for even blogging. 7 of the most common motives that drive many of the top bloggers are discussed above and can be used for just about any niche imaginable. The lesson here is that it is not so much your style of delivery that will make you popular but the degree of passion you have for what you write about!

T-Mobile G-Slate Tablet Review

With its 8.9-inch screen, the T-Mobile G-Slate is noticeably smaller than both the 10.1-inch Xoom and the 9.8-inch iPad 2. The G-Slate is only slightly heavier than the iPad 2, but, like the Xoom, feels heftier, due to its odd weight distribution.

The G-Slate has a thickness of 0.49 inch, a little over one-third thicker than the iPad 2′s 0.34-inch profile. In landscape mode, its screen is as wide as the iPad 2′s, but is about an inch shorter in height. The G-Slate feels comfortable in our hands while typing, whether in landscape or portrait mode, and unlike the iPad 2 with its smooth-as-silk metal casing, the G-Slate isn't as likely to slip from our grip.

On its bottom side, the tablet has ports for Mini-USB and Mini-HDMI-although not Micro-HDMI as on the Xoom. On the top are a volume rocker and microphone pinhole. Two speakers can be found on the right side, with another on the left. Also on the left are the power/lock button, a headphone jack, and the power adapter slot input.

Accessing the G-Slate's SIM card is a little more involved than doing the same on the Xoom. There's a hidden panel on the back, requiring you to push down and slide it, revealing the SIM slot as well as the reset button underneath.

These days you can't have a tablet without a built-in camera, usually two. The G-Slate attempts to one-up the competition by including not only a front-facing 2-megapixel camera, but also a 5-megapixel 3D camera on the back. Technically, this is three cameras in all, although T-Mobile isn't really marketing it that way.

If you've seen pics of the back of the G-Slate, you may have noticed a narrow silver plate across it. You may have also assumed this stylish-looking plate doubled as a kickstand. It doesn't; its only function is to add a little design panache.

The G-Slate is the first Honeycomb tablet with out-of-the-box 4G support, courtesy of T-Mobile's network. The tablet also comes with T-Mobile streaming TV preinstalled as well as an on-demand service called T-Mobile TV, EA's Need for Speed Shift HD, Zinio Reader, and 3D camcorder and player software. Full Flash support is delivered via the Get Flash application, which will install Flash on the device within seconds.

The G-Slate also provides the usual tablet features, such as Bluetooth 2.1 support for audio and peripheral support (including Bluetooth keyboards). The Wi-Fi antenna supports bands up to 802.11n. Embedded sensors for screen brightness, accelerometer, and gyroscope are all included

A 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core mobile processor and 32MB of internal flash memory round out the specs.

The good: With 4G support, a wide-angle IPS screen, out-of-the-box streaming TV features, and Honeycomb support, the G-Slate is currently the best option for Android tablet shoppers.

The bad: Unless you have a thing for two-year contracts, the G-Slate is pretty expensive. 3D implementation is disappointing, and 4G drains the battery something quick.
